Cal State Fullerton eliminates New Mexico

FULLERTON, Calif. — Corey Jones hit a home run and drove in three runs as Cal State Fullerton eliminated New Mexico with an 11-3 victory in the Fullerton Regional on Sunday night.

Jones, Christian Colon and Carlos Lopez each had three hits for the Titans (43-16), who have won 25 of 28 games. Pitchers Daniel Renken and Raymond Hernandez combined for nine strikeouts.

Jacob Nelson had a solo home run for the Lobos (38-22), who made their first NCAA regional appearance since 1962 and their second ever.

Nelson made his first start at first base for Justin Howard, the NCAA leader in hits (119) and co-leader in batting average (.456). Howard injured his left knee in a collision with Minnesota catcher Kyle Knudson in Saturday night’s 6-4 loss.
