NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- On Saturday night Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico went on to win the junior middleweight title of the World Boxing Association at the new Yankee Stadium. Miguel Cotto defeated Yuri Foreman who had held the title before. The fight between Miguel Cotto and Yuri Foreman on Saturday took a dramatic turn from the seventh round onwards and just 42 seconds into the ninth round the referee of the game Arthur Mercante called the game to a halt and declared Miguel Cotto winner.

Miguel Cotto had always remained one of the favorites of the New York boxing fans and on Saturday the crowd of around 20,272 fans cheered loud as Miguel Cotto rained punches on Yuri Foreman towards the end of the game. While there is no doubt about the fact that Miguel Cotto’s victory came due to “the perfect fight” that he displayed according to his trainer, but it cannot be denied as well that Yuri Foreman’s injured leg acted as an advantage.

During the seventh round of the bout Yuri Foreman who was already wearing a brace in his right knee fell. The fall no doubt affected the mobility of the player and Miguel Cotto took enough opportunity of the injury. Miguel Cotto went for one punch after the other on Yuri Foreman and the latter hardly provided any defense. In the eighth round while someone from the side of Yuri Foreman threw a towel, the referee asked the boxer whether he wanted to continue with the bout to which the boxer agreed. Arthur Mercante had reportedly said that he did not feel the need to stop the fight as they boxers were “in the middle of a great exchange, a great fight”.
