After 75: Argentina holds 1-0 lead against Nigeria

JOHANNESBURG — Argentina was clinging to a 1-0 lead over Nigeria after 75 minutes of their Group B match at the World Cup following several missed chances.

Gabriel Heinze scored with a diving header in the sixth minute from 12 yards from Juan Sebastian Veron’s corner at Ellis Park.

Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi narrowly missed several times in the first half and failed to convert opportunities after halftime.

Nigeria had chances of its own on counter attacks, including a shot in the 71st by Taye Taiwo that narrowly missed its mark.

Enyema made a one-handed save from Messi’s sixth-minute shot from outside the box, and Messi missed on a four-on-two opportunity in the 65th.
