England, Algeria 0-0 in 2nd half of WCup match

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — England and Algeria were 0-0 after 60 minutes of their World Cup Group C match Friday.

England pressed forward in the second half but failed to create clear scoring chances, while Algeria looked happy to sit back and look for opportunities to counterattack.

England midfielder Frank Lampard had the best chance of a more open first half, but his left-footed shot from 12 yards was saved nicely by Algeria goalkeeper M’bohi Rais Ouhed.

Midfielder Steven Gerrard was particularly wasteful in possession for the disappointing English, while striker Wayne Rooney was largely quiet.
