Kalmadi mourns Digvijay Singh’s death

NEW DELHI - Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president, and a member of parliament, Suresh Kalmadi Thursday condoled the death of Digvijay Singh, president of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

“Shri Digvijay Singh has been associated with the sports and Olympic movement for a long time. He has been a great sports administrator and an executive board member of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.

“During his tenure as president of NRAI, shooting achieved great heights and Abhinav Bindra won the first ever individual Olympic gold medal in Beijing,” Kalmadi said in a statement.

Kalmadi said his death has come at a time when his services are most needed for the success of the Commonwealth Games. “He will be greatly missed by the entire sports fraternity.”

Digvijay Singh, a former union minister and Lok Sabha MP from Bihar, passed away in a hospital in London. He was 54.
