MUNICH - A sensational front nine with six birdies, four of them in a row from sixth to ninth, saw Jeev Milkha Singh zoom up the leaderboard with a seven-under 65 that saw him finish tied 11th at 13-under 275 at the BMW Munich International golf tournament.

It was an improvement by 37 places from his third day’s position at 48th. Jyoti Randhawa (73) finished tied 46th while Shiv Kapur (73) was tied 67th.

“It felt good to sink those birdies after such a long time,” said Jeev. “There were a few other chances down the home stretch. But I am sure things are around the corner.”

Jeev’s fine finish should see him a gain a few places on the World rankings and the European Race to Dubai standings. He was tied for 11th with five others.

Randhawa, tied 22nd after three rounds, slipped 24 places with a third round 73 that saw him close the week at eight-under 280. Kapur dropped three bogeys in a four-hole stretch in the middle of the round and ended with a 73 that saw him finish the week at four-under 284.

David Horsey’s final round of 67 held up for the title as the Englishman rallied from tied sixth to the top for his maiden European Tour title. His third straight 67 saw him finish at 18-under 270 and one stroke clear of second placed Ross Fisher, who jumped up with an eagle on the 18th for a 17-under 271.

The lead group, including overnight leader Bradley Dredge faltered and ended further down. Dredge managed a birdie on the 18th in his 74 and ended in a five-way tie for third place with Alex Cejka (67, Peter Larrazabal (68), Kenneth Ferrie (68) and Rafael Cabrera-Bello (68), all of whom ended at 16-under 272.

Jeev, coming back after three week’s of missed cuts in Untied States and a break during the week of he US Open began with an aggressive intent, dropping birdies on the first and second. He then parred the next three holes and then followed that up with a birdie spree from sixth to ninth.

He turned in six-under and then another birdie on 11th made him seven-under for 11 holes. But then the birdie run dried up. He missed a couple of makeable birdie putts and the seven pars saw him close the round at a week’s best 65, which was better only by third round leader Bradley Dredge and Peter Whitford on the first day.
