PORTLAND (GaeaTimes.com)- The Portland Trail Blazers have signed Utah Jazz shooting guard Wesley Matthews to an offer sheet on Saturday. According to sources, the 23-year-old player was signed by an offer sheet worth $34 million for five years although the terms of the deal have not been confirmed by the team officials as well as the player. Although it was reported that the Portland Trail Blazers intended to include Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Farmer but ultimately it seems that the team decided to go with Wesley Matthews instead.

Reportedly, after a meeting took place between Wesley Matthews and Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, the 23-year-old shooting guard signed the offer sheet yesterday in Las Vegas. This leaves that Utah Jazz with a time limit of seven days during which the team has to take the final call about whether to match the offer sheet and keep the Wesley Matthews which would require the team to make a $9.2 million upfront payment to the player. Wesley Matthews‘ agent Lance Young has reacted to the development by adding that the player is ready to play for any team as he simply loves to play and win. Lance Young also hinted that as the Portland Trial Blazers has come hard on Wesley Matthews, there was hardly any other option apart from taking note of the offer made by the team.

Last summer, the Portland Trail Blazers signed Utah Jazz player Paul Millsap to an offer sheet that called for an upfront payment of a staggering $10.3 million. Although, back then the Utah Jazz chose to match the offer sheet, whether they will do the same with Wesley Matthews is something that is being widely speculated.
