New York (GaeaTimes.com) - Dustin Johnson has been knocked off from the PGA Championship after he was penalized two strokes for grounding his club in a bunker. He was thrown out of the playoff finishing in T5 with Jason Dufner and Steve Elkington. Before this mishap, the 24 year old golfer was in the third-round leader.

I don’t know if I can describe it, I just thought it was on a piece of dirt the crowd had trampled down. Never thought it was a sand trap. I looked at it a lot, never once thought it was a bunker.

said Johnson after his unfortunate departure. His tee shot on 18 went into the gallery on the right side, landing in a small sandy area. Over these championship days the area was full of fans. As the crowd was all over it, it seemed to be more than a waste area than a sand trap. But before this tournament the committee had declared that there is a lot of weird placed bunker all over the course. All the sandy patches would be treated as bunker. No matter how big or how tinny the patch is, players would treat it as bunker and should play accordingly.

He was unaware of the bunker and decided to put his club to hit it into the green. An official David Price approached him and told him that there is a problem as Johnson might have hit the club into a bunker.

What bunker?

This was Johnson’s reaction soon after he heard it. It seems that he might also have forgotten the rules before play. Johnson’s departure is the cruelest ruling since Roberto de Vicenzo and the victory apparently went to Bob Goalboy whereas Martin kaymer grabs the title in this one.
