Wie shoots 28 for first 9 holes in Arkansas

ROGERS, Ark. — Michelle Wie has shot the lowest nine-hole score on the LPGA Tour this year, a 28 to start the second round at the P&G Northwest Arkansas Championship.

After beginning her round Saturday on No. 10, Wie birdied five of her first seven holes before making an uphill putt of about 35 feet on No. 18 for an eagle. That brought her to 7 under for the day and 10 under for the tournament, four strokes ahead of Janice Moodie, who also was in the middle of her second round.

After sinking the long putt, Wie pumped her right fist while dancing off the green.

Several LPGA players have shot 29 this year for nine holes, and Ji Young Oh shot 7 under on a par-37 nine at the Safeway Classic.
