Georgia Southern beats Coastal Carolina 43-26

CONWAY, S.C. — Kyle Oehlbeck returned a fumble for a touchdown and Jaybo Shaw rushed for another score late in the fourth quarter Saturday night as Georgia Southern beat Coastal Carolina 43-26.

Oehlbeck’s 8-yard return with 2:46 left came after the Chanticleers, who trailed 22-6 early in the third quarter, had pulled within three points, 29-26, on Zach McDowall’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Marquel Willis.

Following Oehlbeck’s touchdown, the Chanticleers turned the ball over on downs, giving Georgia Southern (2-1) possession at the Coastal Carolina 44.

On a third-and-2 play, Shaw completed a 35-yard pass to Mitch Williford for a first down at the 1, then scored with 29 seconds left.

Shaw completed 7 of 12 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

McDowall completed 26 of 40 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns for Coastal Carolina (0-3).
