Goombada Guska wins Monmouth Park feature

OCEANPORT, N.J. — Goombada Guska drew off in the stretch to win the $100,000 Charles J. Hesse III Handicap at Monmouth Park on Saturday, beating Hermosillo by 4¼ lengths.

Ridden by Joe Bravo and trained by Scott Volk, the 3-year-old colt covered 1 1-16 miles over a fast track in 1:44 1-5 and paid $10.20, $5.20 and $3.40. It was the third win in 13 career starts for Goombada Guska, who has earned $165,650.

Hermosillo, who won the race last year, returned $6 and $5, while Bythebeautifulsea was another 2½ lengths back in third and paid $6.40.

In the co-feature, Emily Allstar held off Way With Words by a head in the $100,000 Jersey Girl Handicap.

Trained by Paul Kopaj and ridden by Omar Figueroa, the 5-year-old mare covered 1 1-16 miles over a fast track in 1:44 3-5 and paid $12.80, $4.80 and $3.40.
