Ryan leads Austin Peay past Tennessee State 26-23

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jake Ryan threw a 7-yard touchdown to Adrian Mines with 40 seconds left to lift Austin Peay to a 26-23 win over Tennessee State on Saturday night.

The Governors (2-1, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) trailed 23-16 when Tennessee State’s Dante Thomas scored on a 1-yard run with 8:58 left in the fourth quarter. Austin Peay’s Stephen Stansell made a 29-yard field goal and Adrian Mines caught on the go-ahead touchdown.

Ryan, who completed 13 of 21 passes, threw for 178 yards and one interception for Austin Peay. Ryan White led the Governors with 112 yards rushing on 17 carries and one touchdown. Mines finished with seven catches for 84 yards for Austin Peay.

Preston Brown had 116 yards rushing on 27 carries and one touchdown for the Tigers (1-2, 0-1). Jeremy Perry, who went 22-for-32 passing, threw for 225 yards and one passing score.
