MADRID - The third round of the Spanish football league programme finished Monday night with a lively 2-2 draw between Deportivo Coruna and Getafe.

Visitors Getafe went ahead thanks to an own goal from Deportivo defender Diego Colotto in the 34th minute.

Mexican playmaker Andres Guardado turned the tables for Deortivo by converting two penalties at the start of the second half, but Javier Arizmendi salvaged a point for the visitors by making it 2-2 with a handsome drive 20 minutes from time.

Getafe had midfielder Pedro Mosquera sent off toward the end and were happy to leave La Coruna with a point. They are now eighth in La Liga with four points from three matches.

Deportivo, for their part, are 14th on three points, having drawn all of their three matches. It is their worst start since 1997 and could augur a struggle against relegation.

The fourth round of matches will kick off Tuesday with three games: Real Madrid-Espanyol, Osasuna-Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao-Mallorca.

Wednesday, defending champions Barcelona will be at home to Sporting Gijon without injured idol Lionel Messi. The Argentine star will be out for an estimated 10 days with a badly sprained right ankle.

Also Wednesday, leaders Valencia - the only team to have won all three matches - will host Atletico Madrid.
