Duke extends McCallie’s contract through 2016-17

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke has extended the contract of women’s basketball coach Joanne P. McCallie through the 2016-17 season.

The school announced the three-year extension Friday, three weeks before the Blue Devils begin practice.

Athletic director Kevin White calls McCallie “one of the bright stars at the university” and says Duke is positioned to be one of the nation’s elite programs.

McCallie is 82-22 in three seasons at Duke, reached the NCAA tournament all three years and advanced to the round of eight last March.

Last season, she also led the Blue Devils to their first Atlantic Coast Conference title since 2004 and became the first coach in Division I history to win a league title in four different conferences.
