Georgetown outlasts Holy Cross 17-7

WASHINGTON — Quarterback Scott Darby threw for 191 yards and one touchdown and added 98 yards on the ground to lead Georgetown past Holy Cross 17-7 on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half that yielded eight punts, Holy Cross (1-3, 0-1 Patriot League) got on the board first. After a Darby fumble, the Crusaders’ Ryan Taggart threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Gerard Mistretta.

Hoyas kicker Brett Weiss capped a 15-play, 39-yard drive with a 31-yard field goal to pull Georgetown (3-1, 2-0) within four points entering the fourth quarter.

A 7-yard touchdown run by Philip Oladeji and an 8-yard touchdown pass from Darby to John O’Leary gave Georgetown a 17-7 advantage with 2:46 remaining in the game.

The Hoyas are off to their best start in conference play since joining the Patriot League in 2001.

Linebacker Ricky Otis had 16 tackles for the Crusaders.
