Dartmouth holds off Sacred Heart 21-19

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman Dominick Pierre rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns and Sacred Heart missed a 38-yard field goal with 44 seconds left in the Big Green’s 21-19 victory Saturday.

Dartmouth (2-0), playing its home opener with a winning record for the first time in 13 years, won back-to-back games for the first time since 2003.

First-time opponent Sacred Heart (1-3) took a 6-0 first-quarter lead on two Jesper Fredricksson field goals.

Pierre scored on a 3-yard run, but the Pioneers regained the lead on Marcel Archer’s 1-yard rush. Dartmouth blocked the extra point attempt.

Rushing TDs by Conner Kempe and Pierre put the Big Green ahead 21-12 late in the third quarter.

Dale Fink’s 4-yard pass to Rich Rossi with 5:29 to go made it 21-19. Sacred Heart got the ball back at its own 44 but stalled at the Dartmouth 21 and Fredricksson’s kick was wide left.
