Magic exercise option on PF Anderson for next year

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic have decided to keep promising young forward Ryan Anderson around a little longer.

The Magic announced Friday they were exercising their option on Anderson’s contract that will keep him in Orlando through next season. Anderson was traded from New Jersey last year in the blockbuster deal that brought Vince Carter to the Magic.

Anderson proved to be a valuable piece of the trade.

He beat out Brandon Bass for the backup power forward spot, logging heavy minutes while starter Rashard Lewis served a 10-game suspension to start last season. Anderson averaged 7.7 points per game and helped stretch the floor with his strong 3-point shooting.

The 22-year-old was drafted 21st overall by New Jersey in 2008.
