Haryana gives Rs.15 lakh each to three gold medal wining wrestlers

CHANDIGARH - Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has announced a reward of Rs 15 lakh to each of the three state wrestlers for winning the first three golds at the XIXth Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.

Expressing pleasure over the player’s achievement, Hooda said it was a great beginning and many more players would bring laurels to the state and the country.

He said it was a matter of great pleasure for the state that players from Haryana have contributed three gold medals to the overfall tally of five.

Ravinder Singh, won gold in wrestling in the 60kg Greco-Roman style event. He defeated England’s Christopher Terence Bosson 7-2 in the final to run away with the top honours.

Grappler Anil Kumar, who clinched gold medal for India in the 96kg Greco-Roman style event, has defeated Hassene Fkiri from Australia.

Sanjay Kumar, who earned gold medal in wrestling in the 74kg Greco-Roman style event has defeated South Africa’s Richard Brian Addinall 2-0 in the final.

Earlier, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora and Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma separately announced cash rewards for Indian medal winners.

Deora announced 10 lakh rupees for winners of gold medals, seven lakh fifty thousand rupees for silver medalists and five lakh rupees for bronze medal winners.

Nearly 50 sports persons affiliated to the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board are representing India in the 2010 Games.

Sharma announced seven lakh fifty thousand rupees for a gold medalist, five lakh rupees for a silver medalist and three lakh fifty thousand rupees for a bronze medal winner. (ANI)
