MOHALI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In what was one of the greatest test matches witnessed in recent history, VVS Laxman pulled off a miraculous win for India in the first test against Australia. With the match swaying in every possible direction since the very first day, Day 5 looked strongly in Australia’s grasp as the Indian side was reeling at 124/8 at oner point.

Chasing 216 for victory on the last day with 4 Indian batsmen already back to the pavilion, the Indians started off the last day in a rather hopeless fashion. Sachin Tendulkar, on whom the entire side banked upon fell after a resilient 38 leaving MS Dhoni and VVS Laxman to finish the job. In spite of high expectations, the Indian captain failed to make an impact and soon the Indian side looked ready to fold within 150. Save there was VVS Laxman, who suffered from a back problem and was unable to bat in the first innings. Stringing together an unlikely and almost unbelievable partnership with Ishant Sharma, VVS Laxman produced what was one of the finest test innings of all time. No.10 batsman Ishant Sharma too played his best test inning and frustrated the Australians with his defiant 31 which was a crucial part of the 81 run partnership between him and VVS Laxman.

After Ishant Sharma’s dismissal, it looked like the Australians would pull off another narrow victory as Pragyan Ojha still had a long way to go as a test batsman. With the injured VVS Laxman at the other end and just two runs to get, the Indian side won in a rather ironical fashion as a leg by off Pragyan Ojha fetched the final runs.
