RANCHI - Tennis star Sania Mirza Thursday said she was honoured to be in the home town of Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Sania was here to inaugurate a tennis court along with Chief Minister Arjun Munda. Sania’s Pakistani cricketer husband Shoaib Malik was also present.

“It feels great to be in Ranchi. I have heard a lot about the city and wanted to come here. I will be back to play tennis here,” Sania said.

She praised the newly-constructed tennis court and termed it world class. “I hope people of Ranchi will do well in tennis. Ranchi is home city of Dhoni and I am honoured to be here.”

She also played tennis with Chief Minister Arjun Munda and deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Mahto. She practiced for nearly an hour on the new court.

“I hope tennis players of the state will shine like Sania,” Munda said.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) is constructing an international cricket stadium in Ranchi. The stadium complex has a state-of-the-art academy, and a tennis court which has been imported from New Zealand at a cost of Rs.40 lakh.

The stadium complex is likely to be completed by mid-next year.
