ODENSE - India’s Parupalli Kashyap bowed out of the Denmark Open Super Series badminton, going down to Pengyu Du of China 13-21, 17-21 in the quarter-finals.

Kashyap, who has been in fine form this season and upset World No.10 Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand in the previous round here, found the going tough against the Chinese, ranked 26, and lost in 41 minutes Friday.

The Indian, who won the singles bronze at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, kept pace with his opponent till 9-all in the first game before the Chinese raced ahead, winning the long rallies and also showing more control at the net.

In the second game, Kashyap, ranked 38, fought bravely and closed the gap at 12-13, but Pengyu pocketed five points to lead 18-13. Showing tenacity at the dying stage, Kashyap saved four match points before finally giving up.

Pengyu will play second-seeded Indonesian Taufiq Hidayat in the semi-finals. In the other semi-final, Yun Hu of Hong Kong will take on Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen.
