NEW DELHI - With only a day left for the start of the Global Junior City Circuit Final and Cadet Challenge in Hyderabad, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) Saturday finally managed to rope in the title-sponsor for the big event.

The TTFI officials said Deccan Chronicle (DC) will pay a sponsor money of Rs.10 lakh and will be the main sponsor of the Nov 1-7 event.

“We needed Rs.36 lakh for organising the tournament and with the money coming in, we will be able to take care of the organisation aspects. I appreciate the interest shown by Deccan Chronicle at the last moment,” TTFI secretary general Dhanraj Choudhary told IANS.

When asked what led to the delay in getting the sponsor, Choudhary said: “Earlier, everyone said they have invested in the Commonwealth Games and that is why we had to struggle this time around.”

The equipment such as tables will be supplied by the German sports goods manufacturer Joola while Butterfly sports goods will provide the balls during the event.

World’s finest paddlers in the under-15, 16 and 18 category will be seen in action at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium in Hyderabad.
