Chirag United down East Bengal to enter final

NEW DELHI - Mohammad Rafique’s late strike handed Chirag United a 1-0 victory over fancied East Bengal and a spot in the final of the Durand Cup football here Thursday.

Rafique’s goal in the 86th minute proved just enough for Chirag United to get past a formidable East Bengal side in the second semi-final at the Ambedkar Stadium.

Rafique, who scored the only goal in the game, was also adjudged the best player.

The Kolkata club now plays JCT Phagwara in the final of the 123rd edition of Durand Cup Sunday.

JCT knocked out defending champions Churchill Brothers in the first semi-final Wednesday.
