CHARLOTTESVILLE - India’s Somdev Devvarman crashed out of the $50,000 Challenger tennis with a 6-7(4), 3-6 loss to Australia’s Chris Guccione.

The 444th-ranked Guccione, who was ranked as high as 67 in 2008, now leads a 2-0 head-to-head record over the 96th-ranked Indian, whom he had previously beaten in straight sets in last year’s Aptos Challenger.

Somdev, however, reached the men’s doubles semifinals with Treat Conrad Huey of the Philippines. The two defeated Andrew Anderson of South Africa and Chris Eaton of England 7-6(4), 4-6, 12-10 and now play Americans Robert Kendrick and Donald Young.

Another Indian in the singles fray, Yuki Bhambri lost in the pre-quarterfinals.
