ICC working with PCB and Haider to probe ‘fixing death threat’ incident: Lorgat

DUBAI - The International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat has said that the governing body is helping the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to probe the Zulqarnain Haider incident.

Haider had disappeared from his team’s hotel in Dubai before the start of the fifth and final ODI against South Africa on Monday.

The 24-year-old later emerged in London, where he claimed that he had received death threats from bookmakers when he refused to fix the final two matches of the series.

The player had not even discussed his plans with any of his team officials or fellow teammates.

“We have met with the player and we are engaged in following up with the PCB,” the Daily Times quoted Lorgat, as saying.

“Clearly this is in the first instance a team matter for Pakistan cricket, but the ICC is willing to provide assistance to the PCB and the player. We understand his plight if reports are indeed true,” he added.

Lorgat also said that the ICC would support the PCB for a “clean up” of Pakistan cricket.

“We are very sympathetic to the issues that Pakistan cricket is challenged by and we are providing all the support we possibly can and will continue to do so,” Lorgat said. (ANI)
