Asian Games snooker: India men’s team win silver

GUANGZHOU - India lost 1-3 to China and had to be content with a silver in the men’s snooker team event at the Asian Games here Monday.

The trio of Yasin Merchant, Aditya Kumar and Brijesh Damani went down to Junhui Ding, Liang Wenbo and Tian Pengfei 16-70, 51-46, 27-68, 0-96 at the Asian Games Town Gymnasium.

By coming second, the Indian team bettered its bronze medal show in the Doha edition four years ago.

The silver in snooker is India’s third in the cue sport event of the Asian Games.

Pankaj Advani won the gold in billiards singles while Alok Kumar secured a bronze in the men’s 8-ball pool singles Sunday.

Merchant, Mehta and Damani earlier blanked Pakistan 3-0 en route to the final.
