Asian Games athletics: Ram Singh finishes 15th in marathon

GUANGZHOU - India’s Ram Singh Yadav finished 15th in the men’s marathon on the last day of the Asian Games here Saturday. Yadav clocked 2.39:23 hrs.

South Koreas Ji Youngjun won the gold medal with a timing of 2.11:11 hrs. He was follwed by Japans Kitaoka Yukihiro who won silver by finishing the race in 2.12:46 hrs. Shami Mubarak Hassan of Qatar won bronze (2.12:53hrs).

It was India’s only event Saturday.

India, which won 11 medals Friday, finished on sixth place with its best ever haul of 64 medals (14-17-33), surpassing the 57 medals collected in 1982 Asiad at home.

China (199-119-98), South Korea (76-65-91), Japan (48-74-94), Iran (20-14-25), and Kazakhstan (18-23-38) are above India in medals tally in that order.
