President congratulates Sachin Tendulkar

NEW DELHI - As Indians celebrated Sachin Tendulkar’s 50th Test century, President Pratibha Patil Sunday joined the nation in lauding the cricketer for becoming the first batsman to achieve the feat.

Patil praised Tendulkar for his “spectacular achievement”, adding all Indians were proud of his remarkable accomplishment.

Tendulkar achieved the feat when he drove South African bowler Dale Steyn through the covers for a single on the fourth day of the first Test against South Africa at Super Sport Park at Centurian Sunday. It took him 196 balls with 12 fours and one six.
