Deepika redeems herself in Junior Archery

NEW DELHI - Archer Deepika Kumari fought back from initial tournament scares to win the girl’s individual recurve in the 33rd Junior National Championship here Thursday.

Deepika, representing Steel Plants Sports Board (SPSB) won the round after being humbled in the 50 and 60m category. A.S. Devi of Manipur and Jharakhand’s Sumita Kumari came second and third, respectively.

Mukesh Tamang of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) won the boys recurve event, ahead of Delhi’s Ajay and colleague Raj Govind Swansi.

In compound archery, Commonwealth Games silver medallist Ritul Chattarjee of Andhra Pradesh (A.P) defeated SSCB’s Chittibomo Jignas and Arjun Rao of Jharkhand to be crowned champion.

Jayalaxmi Sarikonda of Maharashtra won the girls title. Jharkhand’s Prerna Bhagat and A.P’s Jyoti Surekha were second and third, respectively.
