WELLINGTON - South Africa’s win in Johannesburg in 2006, when the home side scored a then-record 438 for nine to beat Australia, has been voted the greatest one-day international match ever.

Ricky Ponting’s men scored a massive 434 for four from their 50 overs with Ponting hitting a fabulous 164 from 105 deliveries.

However the Proteas responded in magical fashion to make 438 for nine with one ball to spare, after Herschelle Gibbs blazed 175 from 111 deliveries.

Gibbs and Ponting shared the man-of-the-match award.

Australia pace bowler Mick Lewis conceded a world-record of 0-113 from his 10 overs. (ANI)
