Christian hits jackpot among lesser-known players

BANGALORE - Australian medium-pacer Daniel Christian was the one to hit the jackpot among the lesser-known players at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction Sunday.

Christian was taken by Deccan Chargers for 18 times his base price of $50,000. The 27-year-old from New South Wales is a fast bowler and also a big-hitter lower down the order.

Faf du Plessis, the South African batsman who plays for Lancashire and a former U-19 player, made his debut in Twenty20 match against India Sunday. He was bought by Chennai Super Kings for a $120,000 and had a base price of $20,000.

The 26-year-old Australian Steven O’Keefe, who was bought by Kochi for $20,000, is a left-arm orthodox spinner and played for Australia A. After some good first class matches, he was picked for the national side to play against England. In his debut

Twenty20 match, he took three wickets against Pakistan.

Rilee Rossouw, a 21-year-old Soutrh African, was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for $20,000. He is considered a promising left-handed batsman and impressed with his performances in the under-19 World Cup in 2008.

The 20-year-old Chris Lynn, taken by Deccan Chargers for $20,000, is an exciting Australian batsman and a good prospect. In 10 first class matches he has impressive 681 runs at an average 41.40.
