MELBOURNE - Tennis star Samantha Stosur has said that she will dedicate her Australian Open campaign to her grandfather, who passed away on Friday.

“I would like to dedicate this year’s Australian Open to my dear Grandpa, Jan Stosur. As I sat down to write this column, I had only just learned Grandpa had passed away,” Stosur wrote in an article for the Herald Sun.

“He was sick for a while, but it doesn’t really lessen the shock. He was my last surviving grandparent and has always been there for me. Our family is going to miss him dearly.”

“Something like this really puts everything into perspective and I am determined to do him proud over the next fortnight,” she added.

Though Jan’s loss is a shock, the World No.5 stressed that he would have wanted her to play her best at the Melbourne Park.

“I can’t wait. This one’s for you, Grandpa,” Stosur wrote. (ANI)
