SYDNEY - Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has said that he is yet to be approached by Cricket Australia (CA) over his offer to accept the role of mentor to the national team.

It was earlier reported that CA wants to engage Waugh to conduct a no-holds-barred review of the national team and its support structure following the Ashes disaster.

When asked if anyone from the board has contacted him, Waugh said: “Not yet”.

“I’ve heard whispers that they might want me to do something for them, but there’s been no direct or official contact,” the Herald Sun quoted him, as saying.

Waugh had earlier said that he would consider accepting the role after England wrapped up the five-match series 3-1 to win their first Test series in Australia since the 1986-87 tour.

“It’s obviously got to get the go ahead from Cricket Australia, but if they asked me, I’d be interested. I’m more interested in mentoring than coaching. I’ve done it for a number of years with the Australian Olympic team and Australian soccer team,” Waugh had said

“I keep in contact with a number of players in the cricket team now and I’m probably more interested in the one-on-one stuff behind the scenes,” he had added. (ANI)
