LONDON - Striker Darren Brent has reportedly received sickening death threats from Sunderland fans on Twitter after his 24-million-pound move to Aston Villa.

One said: “I hope you die painfully, remember what we did for you.”

And another tweeted: “Die, Judas,” The Sun reports.

Villa boss Gerard Houllier signed Bent, 26, on Tuesday - prompting a string of abusive messages from Sunderland supporters.

One warned: “Look forward to seeing you return to the Stadium of Light next season, watch your back sunshine.”

And another rapped: “Greedy man. I hope Villa get relegated.”

Black Cats chairman Niall Quinn suggested Villa had tapped up Bent three weeks ago.

And boss Steve Bruce had already hinted the hit man was unsettled before slapping in a shock transfer request after Sunday’s derby clash with Newcastle.

But Villa officials hit back, claiming Bent’s reputation and that of their club had been smeared.

Bent admitted when he arrived at Villa Park he would not be using his Twitter account for a while as Sunderland fans would be making their views known. (ANI)
