Clijsters, Zvonareva sail into round four of Australian Open

Melbourne, Jan 22(ANI): World No.3 Kim Clijsters powered into the fourth round of the Australian Open by beating Frenchwoman Alize Cornet on Saturday.

Clijsters destroyed Cornet 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, in an hour and 31 minutes at Melbourne Park.

The 27-year-old will now face the winner of the third-round clash between Nadia Petrova and Ekaterina Makarova in the last 16, Fox Sports reported.

Second-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva also cruised into the fourth round by beating Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-6 (11-9).

Zvonareva, who is trying to reach a third straight Grand Slam final, needed just 34 minutes to capture the first set and gutted out a near 1 1/2-hour second set to advance. (ANI)
