Being vice-captain does not guarantee Taylor future New Zealand captaincy: Vaughan

AUCKLAND - New Zealand vice-captain Ross Taylor, long considered the heir apparent to Daniel Vettori who will stand down from the captaincy after the World Cup, is not “guaranteed” the job, according to New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Chief Executive Justin Vaughan.
According to Stuff.co.nz, NZC officials are divided over whether Taylor should succeed Vettori, with some believing the job should go to former vice-captain Brendon McCullum.
“The situation is that the captain of the Black Caps is a decision that is made by the board of New Zealand Cricket and that decision is made after recommendations from the selection panel,” Vaughan said.
“It would be intended that that is something that will be considered following the World Cup. There hasn’t been any decision made. I don’t think being vice-captain guarantees you the job, no.”
“But being vice-captain obviously suggests the individual is recognized as having leadership skills. But it’s not a guarantee of the future captaincy,” he added. (ANI)
