LONDON - England batsman Eoin Morgan, who was ruled out from the World Cup squad due to injury, Tuesday hinted he could have been fit for the mega event in the sub-continent starting Feb 19.

The middle-order batsman suffered a finger injury during the recent One-day series in Australia and was replaced by all-rounder Ravi Bopara in the 15-man squad for the event co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The Dubliner, who averages a little over 38, wrote in his Twitter account that he will be fit sooner than expected by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

“Some good news this morning,” wrote Morgan.

“No need for an op on my finger..pretty much healed..will be back sooner than expected.”

But, according to International Cricket Council (ICC) guidelines, it is too late for a change in the squad.

Morgan’s speedy recovery could enable him to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League in April.

The England team is currently training in Dhaka and is scheduled to play its first World Cup warm-up game against Canada in Fatullah Wednesday. They then meet Pakistan in the second warm-up before starting their Cup campaign against the Netherlands in Nagpur February 22.
