Sounders’ Ljungberg says he’ll fulfill contract
REDMOND, Wash. — Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Freddie Ljungberg says he has no intention of leaving MLS before the end of his contract.
After practice on the Microsoft Corp. campus Thursday, Ljungberg dispelled rumors he might be looking at a return to playing in Europe.
The Swedish star and former standout with Arsenal in the English Premier League says he is happy playing in Seattle and intends to fulfill the two-year contract he signed. Ljungberg is the Sounders’ highest paid player at $1.3 million per season.
Reports surfaced earlier this week that many European teams were looking at Ljungberg after his strong start to his first MLS season. He recently was selected to the MLS All-Star team that will face Everton FC later this month.
