Bejarano out of intensive care after spill
DEL MAR, Calif. — Jockey Rafael Bejarano is out of intensive care after being seriously injured in a spill at Del Mar three days ago.
A track physician says the jockey was moved to a private room at a hospital in nearby La Jolla on Friday.
Bejarano sustained multiple facial fractures and his mount had to be destroyed in the spill on opening day Wednesday. He had surgery Thursday to repair a broken jaw, cheek and nose.
It’s not known when he might be released from the hospital.
