BHOPAL - The Indian women hockey team has been practising hard for forthcoming Asia cup at a training camp in Bhopal.

The team has been working on coordination, defence, converting penalty corners and has been monitoring games of strong opponents on CD’s, so as to follow their weak points.

Senior player Mamta Kharab sounds hopeful about the Asia cup to be held in November this year and the Commonwealth games to be hosted by India next year.

She says the team has been improving and they hope to deliver good performances. Our main target is the Asia cup, but simultaneously we are also practising for the Commonwealth games. We have improved a lot and will improve more,” she said.

The captain of the team Surinder Kaur said that they will face stiff competition from China, Korea and Japan, but they have been working on their strategies.

“Korea, China and Japan are all very good teams and faster than us. We have been watching their Olympic CD’s and following their weak points, so that we can attack those. We have also been practising to convert the penalty corners,” she said.

Coach M.K Kaushal is supervising the practise session that will last till August 4.

The team might as well participate in tournaments in Germany and Holland but the decisions on those are yet to be taken. (ANI)
