Webster leads after 3rd round at Moravia Silesia

CELADNA, Czech Republic — Steve Webster took a one-shot lead in the Moravia Silesia Open on Saturday after shooting a 3-under 69 in the third round.

Webster was at 11-under 205. He was tied for the overnight lead with fellow Englishman Graeme Storm, who shot a 70 and shared second with Ignacio Garrido of Spain (69).

“I played well today but just left a few putts out there so we’ll see what happens tomorrow,” Webster said. “I’m swinging well and I’m putting good so I can’t wait to get back out there.”

Webster birdied the first two holes and added two more birdies and a bogey.

Garrido hit three consecutive birdies in his back nine and chipped in for eagle at the 16th to take the lead, but he had a double bogey on the 18th.

“I got a bit lucky on the 16th and the chip went in,” Garrido said. “The last was a pity. I didn’t hit a good tee shot, but many times you can hit that shot and then still make the green with a 9-iron. But the lie was so tough that I couldn’t move it.”

Sweden’s Martin Erlandsson had the lowest score of the day, a 66 that included six consecutive birdies. He was six shots behind Webster.

Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain, who helped design the 7,155-yard Prosper Golf resort course, followed up two straight 71s with a 69. He was tied for 14th with Erlandsson and seven others at 5-under 211.

The $2.8 million tournament is the first in the Czech Republic since 1997.

Bernhard Langer won the last European Tour event on Czech soil at the Karlstejn Golf Club course near Prague 12 years ago.
