2 riders hurt during Haskell undercard races
OCEANPORT, N.J. — Two jockeys have been injured and one horse has been euthanized in spills during races before the Haskell Invitational at New Jersey’s Monmouth Park.
Jockey Fabrizio Jimenez fractured bones in his right leg, fractured his right hip and possibly his right ankle Sunday after his horse, Ballado Alert, clipped heels with another horse in the fourth race.
Jimenez was taken to a hospital for evaluation, the track doctor said.
In the next race, jockey Pedro Cotto was unseated by his mount, Tale of Victory, who suffered a fatal breakdown while running along the backstretch. The horse was euthanized, track officials said.
Cotto was taken to a hospital for X-rays of his abdomen and back, the track doctor said.
