Still driving: His tax woes are over, but Helio Castroneves still deals with aftereffects

At top speed, Castroneves still can’t shake ordeal

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Helio Castroneves says he’s still dealing with the angst of the federal tax evasion charges he faced earlier this year.

The three-time Indianapolis 500 champion says his “scar … needs time to heal,” referring to the scandal that threatened to send him to prison. He was acquitted nearly four months ago of charges that he evaded paying $2.3 million in federal income taxes.

Castroneves was at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Tuesday for a project with Maxim Magazine, test-driving high performance cars.
