Second suspect in boxer killing waives hearing
ATLANTA — The man police say was the getaway driver after former championship boxer Vernon Forrest was shot to death has waived his first court appearance in Atlanta.
Fulton County jail spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan says 25-year-old Jquante Crews did not appear at a jailhouse hearing Thursday morning. Police arrested Crews Wednesday, charging him with murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and armed robbery. Flanagan did not know who his public defender is.
Police say the 38-year-old Forrest was shot to death July 25 after he chased a man who robbed him of his championship ring and Rolex watch.
Police also arrested 20-year-old Demario Ware this week, charging him with murder.
Crews and Ware are due in court Aug. 19. Police are looking for a third person believed to be the shooter.
