Former England players pitch for Robert Key’s inclusion in Oval Test

SURREY - Former England players, including Alec Stewart, Graham Thorpe, Allan Lamb, Graham Gooch and David Gower, have said that Kent captain Robert Key should be included in the squad for the fifth and final Ashes Test match to be held at The Oval next week.
The legends believe that Key would bring in experience and calmness to the pressure-cooker atmosphere at The Oval.
“Ravi has been struggling in this series but he has a lot of talent so I would keep him but move him down to No 5. I’d bring in Robert Key at three and slide out Ian Bell,” The Sun quoted Graham Thorpe, as saying.
“We have to be brave. If Marcus Trescothick was available, I’d play him and move Alastair Cook down to No 3. Otherwise, Robert Key must come in for Ravi Bopara,” said Allan Lamb.hile, Graham Gooch and David Gower said that Key would be their choice for the No. 3 slot in the squad as he can handle the situation.
“I would love to see Robert Key back in the No 3 slot. I like the way he plays,” Gower said.
However, Nasser Hussain believes that Mark Ramprakash would be a better option and even hinted to Jonathan Trott for the fine form that he is in.
“What an incredible story it would be if Ramps was brought in and delivered on his enormous natural talent at the age of 39,” Hussain said.
Meanwhile, National selector Geoff Miller and his panel would meet on Friday to discuss about selection matters.
The England squad for next week’s Ashes decider will be unveiled on Sunday. (ANI)
