Red Bulls beat FC Dallas to snap skid

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Juan Pablo Angel scored his second goal with two minutes left in regulation, helping the New York Red Bulls beat FC Dallas 3-2 on Sunday and snap a 13-match winless streak.

It was the Red Bulls’ first victory since May 8 against San Jose, and gave interim coach Richie Williams a winning debut. Williams took over after Juan Carlos Osorio resigned Friday.

FC Dallas (6-11-5) dropped to 0-4-1 in its last five road matches.

Angel missed the previous two matches due to a concussion sustained in CONCACAF Champions League play. Angel scored the go-ahead goal when he knocked in the rebound of Macoumba Kandji’s shot in the 88th minute.

His goal came after former teammate Dave van den Bergh picked up a loose ball from 20 yards out and knocked it past Red Bulls goalkeeper Danny Cepero in the 73rd minute to tie the game.

Angel gave New York a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, when he took a pass from Alberto Celades and eluded defender Pablo Richetti to put a high chip over the head of FC Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala and into the net.

FC Dallas tied the game in the 19th minute, when Dax McCarty knocked home a shot on a pass from Jeff Cunningham. The ball was deflected by Red Bulls defender Kevin Goldthwaite, who drew a red card for reckless play in the second half.

McCarty also assisted on the goal by van den Bergh.

New York took a 2-1 lead in the 27th minute when Dane Richards scored his second goal of the season off a crossing pass from John Wolyniec.
