LONDON/ NAGPUR - Sacked Australian opener Phillip Hughes is determined to make his way back into the squad and hopes to return against the West Indies in the first Test at Brisbane.

Hughes, who was axed after the Lord’s defeat against England, has been training in India with his coach Neil D’Costa and even has a chance to have a one-on-one session with Sachin Tendulkar this weekend.

“I’d love to be there for that first Test in Brisbane and I’d be more than ready if given the chance. That’s why I’ve been training hard the past couple of months in England and now in India,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Hughes, as saying.

“I’ll go back and concentrate on performing for the Blues and if I can score runs there anything can happen. I’d love to play in Brisbane. I want to be back sooner rather than later. But, it’s out of my control and I don’t want to think too far ahead,” he added.

Hughes, who had scored two centuries on debut, was replaced by all-rounder Shane Watson, as he was having a horrendous time in England, where he scored 57 runs in three innings. He further said that the way that Watson played in the Ashes will make his work more difficult.

“Shane Watson did a marvellous job and he was beautiful to watch. He’s also made it tough for me now to get back in,” he said.

Hughes also said that he was trying his level best to cope with short deliveries, which many believe is his weakness. (ANI)
