Trump gets approval to expand Scottish golf course

EDINBURGH, Scotland — Donald Trump has received permission to expand a luxury golf resort he is building on a stretch of Scottish coast despite fierce opposition from residents.

The Aberdeenshire council voted Tuesday to allow Trump to develop an extra 50 acres surrounding the proposed site if he can persuade the people living there to sell the land.

Resident Michael Forbes has been a vocal opponent of Trump’s plans to build the $1.6 billion golf course on a stretch of Scottish coast. Resident David Milne also says he will not sell his property to Trump.

Trump said he hopes to negotiate with the property owners.
