WASHINGTON — Education Secretary Arne Duncan will travel to Denmark next week to support his hometown of Chicago’s Olympic bid.
Duncan will join first lady Michelle Obama and White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett in Copenhagen for the Oct. 2 meeting of the International Olympic Committee. The committee will be choosing a host city for the 2016 Summer Games.
Duncan was a co-captain of Harvard’s basketball team and later played professionally in Australia.
A White House official says no decision has been made on whether President Barack Obama will also attend. The White House sent an advance team to Copenhagen Monday to make preparations in the event the president does travel. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because a final decision has not been made.
