UN boss Ban Ki-moon to attend IOC Congress
COPENHAGEN — A Danish sports official says U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon will attend next week’s Olympic Congress in Copenhagen.
Niels Nygaard, the president of Denmark’s national Olympic committee, says Ban will speak at the opening of the Oct. 3-5 meeting. Nygaard says Friday the Danish organizers are “proud” to welcome Ban to Copenhagen.
The International Olympic Committee meetings kick off Oct. 1.
The following day, the IOC will elect a city that will host the 2016 Olympics. Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo are locked in a tight contest.
Following the 2016 vote, the IOC will hold its 23rd Olympic Congress to address issues facing the movement.
